Council of Churches leader supports removal of prayer banner - Warwick Beacon

Thank you, Reverend Anderson !

There was a time when I worked closely with members of the Rhode Island Council of Churches in the interest of protecting our immigrant / refugee communities from harm. Also, the Roman Catholic Diocese & the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) were active in pure humanitarian work.

No one evangelized me. We were united by practical tasks.

Ironically, I learned this good news, thanks to someone in (from?) New Zealand (!! ) sharing the link on a facebook page...

Well, even in Auckland, New Zealand, what Jessica Ahlquist has done, is news.

I've just spent an hour or so reviewing the March 2011 committee meeting videos, and I just want to say how struck I was at how much of the argumentation of Christopher Young appears to have found its way into the arguments put forward in the case by the committee to the court, and how these were all shot down. I was also struck by the good sense of Stephanie Culhane who liked the banner but was wise enough to see the financial peril of opposing its removal.

I also have sympathy with all of the other members who were well and truly put between a rock and a hard place by Jessica's action. Still, sometimes that's what happens when you stand for election, eh?

Greg, many thanks for your comment and interest. Cranston's great claim to fame was *Big Hair*....
The Cranston Public Library is excellent, but has had to reduce its hours due to budget cuts...

The whole little state of Rhode Island (& Providence Plantations) is seriously hurting economically....

I don't doubt that our collective mental health is impacted -- mind you I have worked in that field --.
